I only have asked you to see me but,
You keep saying you’re “over the past.”
Over the negativity.
Like everything that happened between us is just something that can be folded up and put away.
But the truth is… it’s easy to be over something you never had to take responsibility for.
We were together ten years.
Ten years of my life. Ten years of loving you, building a life with you, believing in you, protecting you, standing beside you even when things were hard. Ten years of memories, habits, promises, quiet nights, loud fights, and all the invisible threads that tie two people together.
And it’s been three years since it ended.
Three years.
And in all that time, you still have never once said the words that mattered.
Not once have you said, “I hurt you.”
Not once have you said, “I see the part I played.”
Not once have you taken even the smallest piece of responsibility for the way things broke between us.
Instead you talk about the negativity like it was some random storm that blew through our relationship.
But storms don’t last ten years.
People make choices.
People avoid things.
People shut down conversations that matter.
People refuse to look at the damage they cause because it’s easier to pretend it wasn’t their fault.
And that’s what you’ve done.
For three years I’ve watched you act like the past is something you can just step over and move on from — like the end of us was some neutral event that simply happened.
But it didn’t just happen to me.
It happened inside me.
It left scars I had to sort through alone.
It left questions I had to answer alone.
It left me trying to rebuild parts of myself that were shaped around loving you for a decade.
Do you know what it does to a person when someone they gave ten years to refuses to even acknowledge the pain they caused?
It makes you feel invisible.
Like the years you spent loving them were real to you but somehow optional to them.
And the hardest part isn’t even the fact that the relationship ended.
The hardest part is that after everything we shared…
after ten years of knowing each other’s hearts, fears, bodies, and lives…
You still couldn’t look back and say,
“Yeah… I had a part in that.”
You didn’t have to be perfect.
I never asked you to be.
But I did deserve honesty.
I deserved accountability.
I deserved the basic respect of you being able to face what happened instead of pretending it was just “negativity” that existed outside of you.
Because the truth is this:
You may be over the past.
But the reason you can say that so easily…
is because you never once had to carry the weight of what you did in it.
I did.
And that weight changed me in ways you will probably never even try to understand.
